What causes Cellulite?

  • A variety of factors play into the development of cellulite, and there is usually no single cause.
    • These factors include hormones, age, genetic factors, and dietary and lifestyle habits.

Cellulite occurs when the fibrous connective tissues which connect the skin to muscle and fat tighten, and pull downwards towards the muscle while pushing the fat layer upwards towards the skin. This is caused by growth in the fat layer which lies in between the skin and muscle. This is what creates the dimpled appearance of cellulite.

Best Cellulite Treatment

Family Podiatry Centre offers a variety of treatments for cellulite, including extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT). ESWT can promote the production of collagen, which keeps the skin supple and springy, while helping to diminish the layer of fat which causes cellulite. Other treatments such as acoustic wave therapy have been shown to be effective as well.
